Has the heatwave got you dreaming of all things outdoor dining? Are you wanting to try the recent trend of matching your dress to your décor? Has lockdown given you a taste for outside socialising? The Nomad team has got you covered with these picnic tips, from what to eat, drink and do right through to the best picnic spots in London.

LOCATION:

Top London picnic locations

Battersea Park

  • With 200 acres to roam, you’re sure to find at least one stretch of grass unfettered by millions of other people who have had the same idea. Plus, with a zoo, fountains and a lake, there’s more than enough to keep you occupied once the post-sandwich slump wears off. Nearest Tube stop: Battersea Power Station

Clissold Park

  • One of London’s best-loved parks, the wide expanses of Clissold Park provide ideal entertainment for outdoor dining. Catch a live arts performance at The Old Church on the corner on your way home, a buzzy not-for-profit venue hosting a whole range of events. Nearest Tube stop: Finsbury Park

Greenwich Park

  • If expansive greenery in an old royal hunting ground is what you’re after, then we have the place for you. This classic south-east London spot offers panoramic views, flower gardens and a royal observatory. Culture vultures and history buffs alike, go forth. Nearest Tube stop: Maze Hill, Greenwich, Blackheath.

Lincoln’s Inn Fields

  • Backing onto the historic chambers of Lincoln’s Inn, this is the perfect spot for securing a minute of relaxation amid the rush of the City. Bonus points for guessing which case the barristers you see dashing in and out of the Inn are working on. Nearest Tube stop: Holborn, Chancery Lane.

Primrose Hill

  • This idyllic spot with views across London is just the place to reconvene with friends and possibly a few ghosts, as in 1678 it was the site of the mysterious murder of Sir Edmund Berry Godfrey. What more could you want? Nearest Tube stop: Chalk Farm.

DRINKS:

Drop wines picnic set up

With your location selected, you’re going to be in need of a drink after your journey.

For vino, we like Drop Wines, an on-demand virtual wine cellar which will deliver to you within the hour, ideal for that one friend who promised they were doing Dry July but has subsequently changed their mind. We also like White Box Drinks, who offer ready-to-drink canned cocktails and a Pick’N’Mix selection, so no one misses out.

If you’re looking for non-alcoholic options, we’ve got a list of our favourites here.

FOOD:

Nomad Cook Sabina's picnic spread in Battersea park

M&S sandwich, be gone. If you’re looking to make your own to impress your friends, swapping the bread for rice paper rolls is an instant way to elevate your lunch and make you look incredibly professional.

If that sounds like too much effort, get it all sent to you directly with On The Table's summer deli box, full of delicious cheeses, olives, charcuterie and more, from the best independent producers in London and beyond!

With the sandwich sorted, step the picnic game up further with salads from De Beauvoir Deli. Add in a selection of veggie bites and hummus from ChicP, and you’re laughing. (ChickP also offer hummus in a kilo tub, so you can cater for everyone you’ve ever met to your heart’s content and have some left over).

For dessert, we love Islands Chocolate, who grow their cocoa on their own farms in St Vincent, offering you artisanal chocolate without any humanitarian compromise. For a particularly special occasion, turn to Cutter & Squidge, who will rustle you up a celebration cake no problem.

Alternatively, if the idea of sourcing all of this is sounding more like a picnic nightmare than a dream, our team of Nomads would love to help you out with their dreamy picnic spreads.
